Underrepresentation is not just frustrating. It is damaging. It's increasingly clear that if one woman has a degree of power and influence, she is misunderstood as a spokeswoman for all women. And this women is more often than not white, straight, non-disabled and middle class. So who is she really fighting for?
Individuality is often sacrificed for the 'greater cause'. It is important to recognise that we all have different passions - and though we are united through the goal to achieve equality for all of society, we can't rely on a small minority to speak for us: it's not fair on them, and it certainly isn't fair to any women who have felt like the 'other'.
